What’s in the Name?
La Colmar bakery & Bistro was named for Colmar, France, which is a small French village nestled in the Alsace region, only 20 miles from the German border. Alsace is well known throughout France for its exceptional culinary traditions.
Colmar is known throughout France for having great chefs and great food – it’s a well-known region for culinary styles because of the diverse and rich culture.
There is a triangle of varied cultures with France, Germany and Switzerland which add to the regions’ culinary flavors.
With a passion for baking, La Colmar’s staff of French trained bakers creates authentic and classic French breads, pastries and traditional dishes fresh each and every day.
Ed and Sue Mullen, owners of La Colmar, are highly devoted to the Southwest Florida community. For years, Ed and Sue considered the idea of opening a restaurant that would contribute to the health of their community. It was difficult to find the right endeavor until the idea of an authentic French bakery presented itself.
Ed and Sue love to travel and enjoy great French food, baked goods and wine. They traveled many times to Colmar, France, to study and observe the culture and culinary arts. Realizing the French flour makes a world a difference in the taste of bread and pastries, they arranged for a local French miller to supply their Naples bakery and bistro with flour which has no bleaching, no GMO’s, no pesticides, and no additives.
La Colmar stands as a testament to what can be accomplished through the love of fantastic food and quality ingredients.
